KUALA LUMPUR: Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be going on tour through Malaysia to give users a chance to upgrade to the newly launched flagship smartphones.
In conjunction with its launch in Malaysia, Samsung Malaysia Electronics is organising a limited-time roadshow promotion in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Queensbay Mall in Penang, and Aeon Bandar Dato Onn in Johor Bahru.
Until March 18, customers who purchase a new Galaxy S9 or S9+ would be eligible for gifts by Samsung, which include a free Samsung Wireless Charger Stand worth RM279 (limited to 2,300 units), 30% off the Samsung Gear Sport smartwatch, as well as RM50 off for a variety of phone-covers.
There is also the Trade Up Programme, where customers can trade in selected devices with an extra trade up value of up to RM400, to be used towards purchasing a new Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9+.
Three lucky fans got to take a super slow-mo video with the star, while thousands more thronged the centre stage to take photos of the actor, who rose to popularity for his roles in TV dramas Wonderful Days, Love in the Moonlight and Naeil’s Cantabile, among others.
During a brief Q&A session with local personality Serena C, Park said his favourite features of the phone were its slow-mo video, and super sharp photos from both its front facing camera for selfies and unique dual aperture back camera for low light shots.
Speaking to reporters later, Samsung Malaysia Electronics head of IT and mobile business KM Liew said the new handsets were inspired by today’s way of communicating on the social media landscape, which favoured images, videos and emojis over text.
“To those who believe that a picture paints a thousand words, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ is the way to go,” he added.
Built on the slogan “The Camera. Reimagined”, the smartphones feature a dedicated chip for image-processing, able to process photos four times faster and also reduce noise in low light situations.
The S9 and S9+ are the first Galaxy smartphones to feature cameras with dual apertures that allow the camera to take better low light images, plus new functions such as AR Emoji and super slow-mo video recording which captures up to 960 frames per second.
Both smartphones boast a 12-megapixel Super Speed Dual Pixel rear camera that is able to shift the aperture from f/1.5 to f/2.4 that lets in more light when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright for clearer, sharper photos, as well as a front-facing 8-megapixel (f/1.7) camera for shooting selfies.
The S9 features a 5.8in Quad HD curved Super Amoled screen, while the S9+ has a larger 6.2in screen.
Users will also be able to enjoy their photos on an equally impressive Infinity Display screen that maximises the ratio of screen to bezel.
Both phones upgrade on their predecessors with stereo speakers, an adjusted placement of the fingerprint scanner, and Intelligent Scan that combines iris and facial recognition.
Weighing just 163g and 189g respectively, the smartphones are rated IP68 for water and dust resistance.
Both models run on Android 8.0 Oreo and are powered by Samsung’s Exynos 9810 octa core processor, with the S9 packing 4GB RAM and the S9+ having 6GB RAM.
The S9 has a 3,000mAh battery, while its larger sibling has a similarly larger 3,500mAh battery.
The Galaxy S9 64GB retails for RM3,299 while the S9+ will come in several capacities – 64GB (RM3,799), 128GB (RM3,999) and 256GB (RM4,399).
They will be available in a variety of colours, including Midnight Black, Coral Blue and the new Lilac Purple.
