IPOH, Feb 12 ― Two Nigerians were charged with defrauding a 56-year-old housewife of RM16,2000 at the magistrate's court here today.

Ekeme Malachy, 28 and Arinze Chibuisi, 24, were additionally charged with two compatriots — Emmanuel Jideanr, 34, and Thankgod, 24 — with entering the country without a valid pass.

Malachy and Chibusi were accused of cheating Tan So Pin into depositing the sum into their bank accounts in two transactions on January 15 and January 16.

They are liable for between one and 10 years' imprisonment upon conviction of the cheating charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same law.

The illegal entry charge under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/ 63 is punishable by a fine of RM10,000, jail not more than five years or both upon conviction.

All four claimed trial and were denied bail
