SHAH ALAM: Imagine Dragons is widely known for their heavy use of drums in their songs.
As such, it was only natural that the American rock band gave an earth-shaking performance last night at the Stadium Malawati as part of its Evolve World Tour.
Throughout the 100-minute show, the four band members put all of their energy into their performance of about 20 songs including Radioactive, Thunder, On Top of The World, Whatever It Takes, Demons and It's Time.
In a short, intimate segment, the band stripped down its predominantly drum-based music to perform acoustic versions of some of their hits such as I Bet My Life and Bleeding Out.
The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the mind-blowing performance of one of the band's most recent singles, Believer, to which the crowd sang along in high spirits.
Vocalist Dan Reynolds was in his element, balancing a high-octane performance with quiet, almost personal moments with the crowd, with whom he shared his previous battle with depression.
"We missed this. I needed this," he said, gesturing to the sea of fans.
Reynolds also told the crowd that Malaysia has always been on the band's-must-visit list since 2012.
"We've been the sole owner of our social media from day one, not our label. And from the very beginning, I have seen people say on it 'Come to Malaysia!' over and over.
"We didn't forget about you. As soon as we could get someone to get us here... we're finally here. And as long as you'll have us, we'll be here.
"You have been so gracious to us. Your food, tour company, the women... everything about this place is beautiful," Reynolds concluded, grinning.
Having made its debut in 2012, Grammy Award-winning Imagine Dragons, which also includes guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee and drummer Daniel Platzman, shot to stardom with their breakthrough hit Radioactive.
The Evolve World Tour is in support of the band's third studio album Evolve, released last year.
Malaysia is the first stop of the tour's Asian leg, and will be followed by Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan and China.
Imagine Dragons Evolve World Tour Live In Malaysia was presented by PR Worldwide and Live Nation.
