Mother with depression falls from 14th floor of Johor Baru condominium

JOHOR BARU: A manager of a construction company was found sprawled on the grounds of Garden Residences Mutiara Mas on Thursday evening.
It is believed that 37-year-old Hii Shiun Siew had fallen from the 14th floor of the condominium building in the 5.30pm incident.
Hii, who was staying with her husband and two children, aged three and six, at their house in Jalan Utama 14 in Taman Mutiara Rini, had gone to the condominium alone. The family owns a unit on Level 13A in the 24-storey building. The unit was rented out.
According to Iskandar Puteri police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Hashim Mohamad, police had obtained the closed circuit television camera footage which showed the victim coming out from the lift on Level 13A, but instead of going to her unit, the victim, who appeared to be disoriented, was seen leaning against the corridor wall before she suddenly fell over the corridor ledge.
"The building security guard who was stationed at the entrance the block heard a loud thud, like something falling onto the ground, and when he went to check, he saw the victim was lying on the ground, in the lobby area," said Noor Hashim.
"In a statement from the husband, the man had said that his wife was suffering from depression due to work stress and had shared her problems to him about three weeks ago.
"She had confided in him about wanting to end her life as she could not bear the stress at work and regretted that she was not a better wife and mother," said Noor Hashim when contacted.
He said the husband who was concern about his wife's mental wellbeing, had taken her to seek help at a private specialist hospital in Iskandar Puteri on Nov 27, where a psychotherapist had said that the victim was experiencing a high level of anxiety and stress level. She was scheduled for a follow-up psychological treatment at the hospital next week.
"However, the husband noticed his wife's condition had worsened. On Nov 28, a friend of his wife had alerted him of her intention to end her life by committing suicide as she could no longer cope with her depression, which was taking a toll on her health and her relationship with her family."
Noor Hashim said, the husband, who feared for his wife's safety, had gone to the condominium on the day of the incident to look for her, but he was too late.
"An autopsy on the victim showed no signs of foul play and the case has been classified as sudden death."
