Datuk Seri’ cons five Filipino maids out of cash, passports

KUALA LUMPUR: A man who claimed to be a “Datuk Seri” cheated five foreign domestic helpers out of about RM38,000 as well as their passports.

The man – who called himself Datuk Seri John Wong – had promised the five Filipino women that he could get them Malaysian work permits, but failed to deliver after taking their passports and cash.

“We called him many times over the delay but he kept giving us promises. We just want our money and passports back,” said 44-year-old Mercy Sison.

She was speaking at a press conference held by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong at Wisma MCA on Wednesday (Dec 27)
.
Chong said he also tried to arrange a meeting with Wong to try get their passports and cash back but added that he was unsuccessful.

“The first time, he said he had suffered a stroke and the second time he said he had cancer, and the third time he said he was not feeling well,” he said.

Chong said he has had over 50 cases where foreigners were preyed on by conmen.

“Please be extra cautious as there are many cheaters out there,” he said.
