PUTRAJAYA: Local actor Jack Tan (pix) has walked away with the prestigious Best Actor award at the inaugural Asean-China Film Festival held here.

The film has made waves abroad, winning several awards in China at different film festivals. Tan himself won the Best Actor award at two competitions in China.

The Best Actress award went to Laila Ulao of the Philippines, for her performance in Women of the Weeping River.

Singapore's Jack Neo walked off with the Best Director award for Long Long Time Ago 2’.

Second Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan closed the five-day festival, at the awards ceremony which was held at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) Monday (Dec 4) night.

“The Belt and Road Initiative has opened up more opportunities between Asean and China.

“The strength of the relationship between Asean and China can be seen from the increasing trade and investment flow.

“We expect the amount of trade to reach US$1 trillion in 2020.

“I hope that the support from the Malaysian government will inspire filmmakers to reach out and make cross border collaborations,” said Ong.
