Two Pakistani students nabbed for cheating Nigerian with credit card scam

PETALING JAYA: Two Pakistani men were allegedly arrested for cheating a Nigerian out of more than RM50,000 cash.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said they received a report of the case on Wednesday (Nov 15).

"A 25-year-old Nigerian man claimed that he had been cheated of RM56,500 cash.

"Two men claimed they could extend the victim's Visa card using the cash," he told reporters at the district headquarters here on Saturday (Nov 18).

"The suspects initially took RM46,500 as payment from the victim to settle his Visa application in July.

"No progress was made until Nov when they asked for another RM10,000 cash," he said.

ACP Mohd Zani said the suspects used forged documents to dupe the victim into believing that they could settle his Visa problems.

"We have remanded the suspects to facilitate investigations.

"We have classified the case as fraud," he said adding the suspects were enrolled in a private college in Klang Valley and were friends with the victim. He said police were investigating if the suspects were involved in other similar cases.
