KUALA LUMPUR: Two men fired gunshots at a woman in a Mercedes Benz in a robbery attempt at Jalan Teratai 2, Setapak, here yesterday.

The 30-year-old real estate agent, however, managed to escape unharmed.

The 5.30pm incident unfolded when a man wearing a motorcycle helmet approached the victim’s car while it was stationary, and knocked on the car door’s window with a pistol.

“The man instructed the victim to get out of her Mercedes Benz, but she ignored him. Instead, she reversed and sped off. That’s when she heard a gunshot.

“(As she continued) to flee, another man on a motorcycle tried to intercept her. In her haste to escape, the victim struck the motorcycle. Then she heard a second shot,” said Wangsa Maju police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif.

It is learnt that a bullet was later found lodged in one of the car’s front tyres.

He added that the victim contacted a friend as soon as she arrived at a safe area.

“The victim and her friend then lodged a police report. Our initial investigation revealed that the victim’s friend is the car owner.

“(We) are now trying to identify the two suspects involved in the incident and (are awaiting) results of a forensic inspection of the bullet found in the front tyre of the victim's car," Roy added.

The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
