Indonesian goalkeeper, 38, dies after collision with teammate

JAKARTA: A goalkeeper from Indonesian top-flight club Persela Lamongan died after colliding with a teammate during a league match.

Choirul Huda, 38, (pic) was rushed to hospital on Sunday (Oct 15) but died shortly after arriving, doctors said.
According to Goal.com, the stopper collapsed towards the end of the first-half in a Liga 1 game against Semen Padang after colliding with team-mate Ramon Rodrigues and Padang forward Marcel Sacramento.
In a statement released on Persela's official website, Dr Yudistiro Andri Nugroho said Huda suffered "impacts on the chest and lower jaw".
Dr Nugroho added that the coming together resulted in Huda "stopping breathing and (caused a) cardiac arrest".
He said a medical team attempted to revive him but after an hour there were "no reflexes of signs of normal life".
The match continued, with Persela beating Semen Padang 2-0.
Persela coach Aji Santoso confirmed after the match that Huda had died.
"All of the players finished the game and went to the hospital, where it was announced that Choirul Huda had died," he was quoted in Goal.com as saying. "The loss of Choirul Huda has hit us all hard. We did not have time to see a doctor, only to see his body."
Huda, a Lamongan native, was a one-club man. He made over 500 league appearances for Persela.
"Thank you for your constant dedication," read a post on the club's Instagram account. "Thank you for the inspiration you gave to Persela, Lamongan and Indonesian football." - The Straits Times/Asia News Network
