Mandarin Oriental Hotel Kuala Lumpur celebrates 54th Malaysia Day with "Malaysia Day Kolam"

The traditional KOLAM is at the centre of the lobby adjacent to Lounge On The Park and Mosaic was set up to usher the day that Malaysia celebrates unity and diversity.

The “Kolam” is a form of drawing that is drawn by using naturally colored rice powders in all of India, and some parts of Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. A kolam is a geometrical line drawing composed of curved loops, drawn around a grid of patterned dots.

Decoration is not the main purpose of a Kolam, It is a sign of invitation to welcome all into the home.

"This years’ Kolam featured in front of Mosaic and LOTP is a design which symbolizes unity, tolerance and acceptance of the various cultures and races in the country. The Kolam showcases a harmony of colors, symbolizing the beauty of differences which makes our country,Malaysia" said Mr. Arul P,  Assistant Director of F&B, Mandarin Oriental Hotel KL

"Malaysia Day a celebration of unity among multi-racial community"

Malaysia Day which is celebrated on Sept 16 each year is also welcomed as a day of national unification. This was because on that date, all the racial and ethnic groups in the country united to celebrate the establishment of Malaysia.

"As citizens, we are proud of what our country has achieved. This is the date Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore came together with Malaya to form the Federation of Malaysia.

It's Malaysia Day when we all say in one voice 'Malaysia Boleh!' As we celebrate being Malaysian for more than half a century, we remind ourselves that we have come a long way in celebrating our rich cultural heritage that is envied by others. But for that to continue, we need to preserve our most precious asset-our unity in diversity. Happy 54th, Malaysia.

"Today, we have become a great nation because we can stand tall and be counted with other developed nations in the world. Congratulations Malaysia"
