GEORGE TOWN: A shortcut back to the hotel after spending some time at the beach turned into a nightmare for a New Zealand tourist when she was allegedly raped near the beach in Tanjung Bungah.

It was learnt that a man had tailed the 26-year-old victim before grabbing her and taking her to a back alley about 11am last Sunday.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the victim claimed in her report that she was raped behind a condominium.
He said a fisherman was arrested at his house in Bayan Lepas at 1.30am yesterday.

The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said, adding that the fisherman has been remanded for six days.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
Meanwhile, the chief security officer at the condominium, known only as Raja, said he was in the security room when the incident happened.
“Our residents association chairman heard the woman screaming for help when he was walking to the carpark. He then shouted ‘leave her alone’ and the man fled.
“I rushed to the scene but the man ma­naged to escape. The woman was shivering and told us that she was raped,” he said.
