Police looking for suspects who beat up Myanmar supporters

PETALING JAYA: Police are hunting for several male suspects who beat up two Myanmar supporters outside the Shah Alam stadium following the SEA Games match between Malaysia and Myanmar on Monday night.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat (pix) confirmed that they had received information of the incident, which occurred at the Bazarena parking lot outside the stadium close to midnight.
He said the two victims, aged 29 and 34, suffered injuries to their faces and bodies after being punched and kicked by the suspects.
“The victims were sent to the Shah Alam Hospital for treatment. One of the victims received outpatient treatment while the other is still being treated at the hospital,” Shafien said in a statement on Tuesday.
The incident had earlier gone viral on social media, with reports that the victims had suffered serious injuries while one of them was robbed of his handphone.
ACP Shafien said investigations were still being carried out, and advised members of the public not to speculate on the matter.
He added that an operation was underway to arrest the suspects involved, and urged those with information to report it to the police.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
