IPOH: Police have detained 23 people including a woman for their involvement in what seemed to be a ritual of a secret society.

Perak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Gan Tian Kee said they were arrested at Pertubuhan Kemakmuran Si Gong Malaysia Sungai Siput branch during Op Cantas, which carried out yesterday.

“They are aged between 22 and 55 and six of them have criminal records.

“They were arrested on the suspicion of carrying out the triad’s oath of allegiance.

“Two life chickens were also seized during the raid. We have yet to determine the gang to which they belong to,” said Gan in a statement today.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 52 (3) of the Societies Act for attending a triad meeting or in possession of any item related to the society which carries a maximum penalty of five-year jail or RM15,000 fine.

Under the Act, any society that carries out a triad ritual is deemed unlawful.
