Wanted man killed in police shootout in Bukit Mertajam

 
BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 31-year-old man was killed in a shootout with the police in Bukit Mertajam Saturday.
It is learnt that the suspect, who was driving his vehicle, was behaving suspiciously when he was spotted by the police task force team during their Ops Khas Samun at 1.25am.
Police tried to stop the car along Jalan Song Ban Keng in Bukit Mertajam, but the car sped towards Kampung Baru in Bukit Mertajam.
It is learnt that the police managed to overtake the car and forced it to stop in Jalan Berjaya, Bukit Mertajam.
Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Zainol Samah said several shots were fired from the car when police approached it for inspection.
Police returned fire and the suspect was killed.
Initial investigation found that the suspect has a criminal record under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery, and was on the wanted list for allegedly robbing a gold trader of RM30,000.
"We found a CZ 75P-01-CAL.9 Luger pistol with live bullets and bullet shells in the suspect's car," he said.
There were 13 bullet shells and three live bullets found at the crime scene.
SAC Zainol added that initial investigation also found that the suspect was planning to rob a gold mill in Butterworth.
The body has been sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for post-mortem
