JDT goalie banned 12 months, fined RM170,000 for assaulting match officials

PETALING JAYA: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has handed a stiff punishment to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) goalkeeper Farizal Marlias (pix) for assaulting match officials during a game.

The national goalkeeper was slapped with a 12-month ban and a US$40,000 (RM170,500) fine.

The ban is on an Asia-wide basis for all domestic, continental and international matches, whether friendly, non-official or official matches.

The decision was posted on the AFC website Friday.

Farizal was expelled by referee Fu Ming of China in JDT's AFC Cup Asean zone semi-finals second leg match against Ceres of the Philippines at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod on May 31.

JDT lost the match 2-1 and were knocked out on the away goals rule after the tie ended 4-4 on aggregate.

Farizal was expelled by the referee for pushing him, the second assistant referee and the fourth official as he exited the field of play.

The AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Committee found that the 30-year-old Farizal guilty of violent conduct and bringing the game of football into serious disrepute.

JDT head coach Benjamin Mora was also ordered to pay a fine of US$7,000 (RM29,840) for using insulting language at AFC staff and match officials in the same match.
