Former Asian Football Confederation (AFC) assistant secretary general Michelle Chai is now the new BA of Malaysia (BAM) general manager.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Asian Football Confederation (AFC) assistant secretary general Michelle Chai is now the new BA of Malaysia (BAM) general manager.




Michelle, 42, beat 10 other candidates to resume the post last held by Lawrence Chew, who quit the national body in May.




BAM president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria, made the announcement after chairing the executive committee meeting on Wednesday at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.




"As you know we conducted interviews over two days (Wednesday and Friday) last week, and today after presenting our proposal to the exco, they have agreed we appoint Michelle as the new general manager of BAM.




"Michelle is currently the assistant to the CEO of the UAE (United Arab Emirates) FA, and has been involved in football administration for the last 16 years. She has also held various positions at the AFC including the assistant secretary general post.




"With all her experience, we believe Michelle is the right person to make sure the technical department receives the best service and to also reduced process loses," said Norza, who also announced the promotion of Dr Suresh Kumar to acting head of the ABM.




Suresh, 51, was previously the BAM building and facilities manager.




Michelle, who has been in the UAE for the past six years, will officially start work at the BAM in August.
