PETALING JAYA: Kim Jong-nam, the estranged half-brother of the North-Korean leader killed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2), was believed to have been travelling under a passport bearing the name “Kim Chol.”
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said in a statement Tuesday that based on his travel documents, the deceased was travelling with the passport number 836410070 with the name “Kim Chol.”
The date of birth indicated in the passport was June 1970 and the place of birth was given as Pyongyang.
Khalid said the police have confirmed that a 46-year-old North Korean had died on his way to the hospital on Monday.
“Investigation is in progress and a post-mortem examination request has been made to ascertain the cause of death,” he said.
Coincidentally, “Kim Chol” was the name of the vice-minister who was executed on the orders of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in 2012.
Kim Chol was reportedly forced to walk across a live-fire mortar exercise for allegedly drinking and partying during the mourning period of Kim Jong-il, the father of Jong-un and Jong-nam.
