KUALA LUMPUR: Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah claimed she and her family received an envelope containing a death threat and a live .45 bullet.

"I discovered this letter this morning. I might have received it on the 17th, but I didn't see the envelope," Maria told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex on Tuesday.

She said that her sons may have brought the letter inside her home on Nov 17 without her knowledge before the Bersih 5 rally, but she had only discovered the letter on a table at home on Tuesday morning.

Inside the envelope was a note that read: "LAST WARNING IF NOT R.I.P Marina and family."

The envelope also contained a live .45 bullet.

Maria noted the incorrect spelling of her name, and joked that perhaps it was sent to the wrong house.

When asked how she felt after reading the letter and finding the bullet, Maria said she felt disgusted.

"This kind of act should be condemned totally. The person that did this should be put in jail," she said, adding that she would be lodging a police report.

Maria said she received two prior death threats via WhatsApp, but still had not received any update from the police regarding who sent the message.

"It's really disgusting and horrendous that someone would stoop so low as to threaten me and my family," said Maria.

Maria was freed from detention under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) on Monday evening after 10 days in solitary confinement.

Maria was arrested on Nov 18, one day before the Bersih 5 rally.

She was investigated under Section 124C of the Penal Code for engaging in activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy and held under Sosma.
