Policeman gunned down by African in Bandar Sri Damansara

KUALA LUMPUR: A policeman was shot and injured by an African man during a routine patrol in Bandar Sri Damansara this evening.

In the 6.30pm incident, the lance corporal who was on patrol had spotted a Perodua Myvi parked at a petrol station in Persiaran Industri.

The Myvi driver's conduct triggered the policeman's suspicion and he decided to check the man.

However, when the policeman exited the patrol car, the man, who appeared to be an African, produced a gun and fired off a shot.

The bullet struck the policeman in the left leg.

The African man then sped off, hitting several other cars along the way.

The Myvi was later found abandoned about three kilometres from the petrol station. The man is believed to have resumed his escape on foot.

The policeman, identified only as Lance Corporal Syarom, was rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital, and is reportedly in stable condition.

Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Ali Thamby said police are investigating the incident.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect
