Ohio State Knifeman Abdul Artan was inspired to carry out a lone wolf attack by ISIS

  • Authorities believe that Abdul Artan was inspired to carry out a lone wolf attack by ISIS
  • Today, an official from the terror group said that Artan is their 'soldier'

  • But law enforcement sources say there was no evidence he had been in direct contact with ISIS and say he was radicalized online by propaganda

  • They say that all evidence points towards a lone wolf style attack
  • The Somali refugee injured 11 during a rampage at OSU on Monday

  • An OSU police officer shot Artan dead just a minute into the attack

  • Just before the rampage, Artan posted a message on Facebook, saying he could no longer stand the mistreatment of Muslims

  • Artan was born in Somalia and spent seven years in a refugee camp in Pakistan before immigrating to the U.S. with his family in 2014

Ohio State knifeman Abdual Artan was inspired by ISIS, authorities say.
Law enforcement sources believe the student's radical Facebook posts, made shortly before he went on the slashing rampage on Monday, reveal his motivations.
The Somali refugee ranted about how he was 'sick and tired of seeing my fellow Muslim brothers being killed and tortured' on social media before wounding 11 in the knife and car attack.
Despite claims from the terror group that Artan was an 'ISIS soldier', sources told CNN there is no evidence that he ever communicated with them directly.
Instead, they say all evidence points to a lone wolf attack. They believe he was radicalized online through terrorist propaganda from ISIS and deceased Yemeni-American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki.
Investigators are inspecting his computer and cell phone and talking to family and associates, as they try to determine what led him to act.
Artan, who transferred to the school from community college in August, mowed down a group of people evacuating Watts Hall after a fire drill Monday morning.
He proceeded to get out of his car and attack innocents bystanders with a butcher knife - sending eleven faculty, students and staff members to the hospital. Three of the 11 injured remained hospitalized today.

Just minutes before the attack, Artan posted a long diatribe on Facebook about how he couldn't take the mistreatment of Muslims and accusing America of 'interfering' with other nations.
Since then, ISIS has come forward to claim responsibility for the knife-wielding attack, with an insider telling a jihadist-linked news agency on Tuesday that Artan was a 'soldier' of their cause.
'The executor of the attack in the American state of Ohio is a soldier of the Islamic State and he carried out the operation in response to calls to target citizens of international coalition countries,' the Amaq agency quoted an insider source as saying, according to a translation by the SITE monitoring group.
Artan's style of attack also fits with ISIS' instructions to sympathizers online to strike out alone with any weapons available to them.
But the group has reinvigorated that message in recent weeks in its new propaganda magazine and a video.

Dozens of FBI agents began searching Artan's apartment Monday night for clues to what set off the rampage.
Artan was born in Somalia and was a legal permanent U.S. resident, according to a U.S. official who was not authorized to discuss the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.
A law enforcement official said Artan came to the United States in 2014 as the child of a refugee. He had been living in Pakistan from 2007 to 2014. It is not uncommon for refugees to go to a third-party country before being permanently resettled.
In addition to the post right before the rampage, Artan published other negative opinions about America on this social media profile.
The student railed against U.S. interference in Muslim lands and warned, 'If you want us Muslims to stop carrying lone wolf attacks, then make peace' with the Islamic State group, a law enforcement official said Tuesday.

'America! Stop interfering with other countries, especially the Muslim Ummah. We are not weak. We are not weak, remember that,' he wrote in another post, using the Arabic term for the world's Muslim community.
The posts were recounted by a law enforcement official who was briefed on the investigation but wasn't authorized to discuss it publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
'Every single Muslim who disapproves of my actions is a sleeper cell, waiting for a signal. I am warning you Oh America!' Artan also said.
On his first day of school at OSU in August, he also expressed a fear of praying in public at the school in an interview with the student newspaper.
'I was kind of scared with everything going on in the media. I'm a Muslim, it's not what media portrays me to be,' he told the newspaper. 'If people look at me, a Muslim praying, I don't know what they're going to think, what's going to happen. But I don't blame them. It's the media that put that picture in their heads.'

Umno members should pledge unwavering loyalty to Datuk Seri Najib Razak as “Allah” willed him to be their leader Says VP Zahid Hamidi (Full Speech)

Zahid: Be loyal as Najib was chosen by ‘Allah’ to be Umno president
NST

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 — Umno members should pledge unwavering loyalty to Datuk Seri Najib Razak as “Allah” willed him to be their leader, the party’s vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said tonight.

“We have to remember we are in a time where Allah has put Datuk Seri Najib as our president. It is fate that Allah wanted it that way.

“I urge all members not just pledge your loyalty through your mouths. The pledge should also be in actions as that is what is wanted by our religion,” he told Umno wing delegates at the opening of their general assemblies at the Putra World Trade Centre here.

Zahid then pledged his own loyalty towards Najib as the party president.

“To make Umno strong forever, loyalty should be practised by all members. No matter what criticism or rumours are thrown towards the party president, it cannot falter, my loyalty to him,” he added.

The deputy prime minister also said that Umno cybertroopers should close ranks and defend against online attacks propagated by the Opposition.

“The 21 century has changed the landscape of the Opposition as there are groups which are based in the digital world. We can’t see them clearly but we can feel the presence of these Opposition groups in cyberspace.

“The cybertrooper battalion should be united to form a strategy against the enemies, not fight among themselves.

“We have to be creative and work to bring us closer to the people especially the target groups among the Gen-Y and Gen-Z groups. Taking selfies alone like what we do now is not enough,” he said.

Zahid also said Umno’s enemy now were not only those outside the party, but within its ranks too.

“Identifying the enemies of Umno last time was not that difficult, because our enemies are known by the logos of their party.

“Now, we are not just facing traditional political parties which are enemies but also from groups that are against us while hiding their true colours that we are not able to see all this while.

“The enemy within our fold exist without us realising, through the Information Technology platform and gadgets,” the Bagan Datoh MP added.

THE Golden Triangle area of Kuala Lumpur is set to have a new icon with the redevelopment of Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) into KL Putra World Trade Centre (KL PWTC).
The project will feature an integrated lifestyle environment comprising the development of a 70-storey office and hotel tower, a new world-class Tun Razak Hall and exhibition halls, a 5,000-capacity mosque as well as a retail podium.
The project will also see the refurbishment of the existing Merdeka Hall and Menara Dato Onn, which currently houses the Umno headquarters.
The entire project is expected to be completed within the next four years.
KL PWTC resulted from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s vision for an expanded headquarters for Umno.
“As Umno is growing rapidly, the initial idea was to provide a new headquarters for the party.
“I felt that this landmark should reflect the welcoming spirit of Umno towards everyone regardless of faith, ethnicity and social background and also the importance of the party in the development of Malaysia.
The new integrated KL PWTC complex will provide seamless connectivity between these components and the city itself, including a link to the River of Life and KL City Centre’s pedestrian linkage programme.
“Thus the scope was expanded to revitalise the whole PWTC complex,” he said during the groundbreaking ceremony.
“The first Umno headquarters was Bangunan Umno on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, which was completed in 1955.
“As the organisation grew, a new headquarters was needed, so PWTC was built and opened 30 years later in 1985.
“Now another 30 years on, Umno continues the tradition of expanding its headquarters, this time through turning PWTC into KL Putra World Trade Centre,” Najib explained.
Taking inspiration from traditional Malay attire, the architectural theme of KL PWTC will incorporate the traditional patterns and unique folds of the sampin as well as the wavy blade and the distinctive hulu (hilt) of the Malay keris.
This theme will be reflected in the 70-storey tower, the inspiration for which is the image of a sampin fold enveloping a keris, signifying the importance of the building in the Malaysian narrative. This imagery will also be replicated at the Putrade Hall, where the traditional patterns of the sampin will be replicated in the external façade of the building.
A retail podium will be incorporated into the redevelopment of PWTC.
The concept signifies a fusion of old and new, bringing the area to a new level as the latest ‘it’ location in Kuala Lumpur, while maintaining the older structures as a tribute to the past.
The 70-storey office and hotel tower will be built on the site of the existing Hentian Putra Bus Terminal and car park.
The towering building will have an area of 1.2 million sq ft for offices, a six-star hotel with 250 rooms and a sky lounge-restaurant with panoramic views of the Kuala Lumpur skyline. The tower was designed to be 70 storeys tall, to represent 70 years of Umno and will also stand as the new headquarters for Umno.
Previously, eastbound buses to Kota Baru, Kuala Terengganu, Jerteh and Kuala Besut would depart from Hentian Putra Bus Terminal.
However, it ceased operations in December 2014 and departures were moved to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Bandar Tun Razak.
The new Tun Razak Hall will involve a facelift of the two existing halls in the current PWTC, featuring modern architecture, and separating them into two levels of approximately 308,173sq ft nett floor space.
This new hall will be used for local and international indoor events, showcases, concerts, conferences and artistic plays.
The Golden Triangle area of Kuala Lumpur is set to have a new icon in its midst with the redevelopment of PWTC into the KL PWTC.
The refurbished Dewan Tun Hussein Onn and Dewan Tun Dr Ismail will be turned into a centralised business centre for corporate meets, events or workshops.
Complementing the Tun Razak Hall will be a large convention centre, Putrade Hall, boasting an exhibition space of 491,640sq ft nett floor area and seating capacity for more than 54,000 people.
This will be another ideal location for conventions, exhibitions, expositions, roadshows, world conferences and even weddings.
Integrating these elements will be a two-level retail podium with an approximate area of 527,200sq ft gross floor area, comprising modern architecture with a more dynamic feel.
The new integrated PWTC complex will provide seamless connectivity between these components and the city itself, including linkages to the River of Life and KL City Centre’s pedestrian linkage programme.
This seamless connectivity is designed to create an all-round vibrant buzz and feel that will resonate throughout the expositions, conventions and events, as well as hoped to promote a healthy outdoor lifestyle.
The 70th anniversary celebrations and groundbreaking ceremony for KL Putra, held as part of the Umno General Assembly, took place on the top level of Hentian Putra yesterday.
