BINTULU: Firemen, due to the nature of their job, are no strangers to unusual situations.

However, nothing could have prepared the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department for what awaited them this morning, when a man came to the fire station with his fingers trapped in a meat grinder.

The Indonesian man, identified only as Irwan, 22, works as a helper at a food court stall. He was in the midst of preparing ingredients for the stall by using the meat grinder when his fingers became trapped inside.

In incredible agony, the man tried to remove his trapped fingers from the machine, but to no avail. As such, his employer decided to bring the meat grinder, with Irwan’s hand still attached, to the fire station for help.

Bintulu Fire and Rescue chief Di Hata Gobel said the firemen moved quickly to try and free Irwan’s mangled hand from the machine.

“Eight firemen spent around 40 minutes trying to free the man’s hand. However, two of his fingers (middle and index digits) had already been mangled and torn from his hand.

After his mangled hand was freed from the machine, an ambulance was summoned and he was rushed to the hospital.
