KUALA LUMPUR: Companies receiving government contracts but support illegal assemblies to topple government will be blacklisted.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said he would instruct the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and the Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS) to review the backgrounds of these companies.

“Companies that clearly support illegal assemblies will be immediately blacklisted.

“I am sure there are many other companies that could give the same or better terms, which should be given opportunities,” he said via his Twitter handle @mpkotabelud today.

Rahman was responding to a column written by Awang Selamat in local Malay daily, Mingguan Malaysia.

Awang had said there were pro-Bersih companies and entrepreneurs that had received government businesses and contracts but had sponsored several Bersih rallies.

“These companies that are pro-Bersih should be blacklisted, the same as how opposition-held states have done towards quarters they labelled as enemies of the state government.”

Awang had claimed that the big revenues from these businesses were used to fund the Bersih movement, who want to topple the government in an undemocratic manner.
