TAPAH, Sept 29 — A paralysed elderly woman is believed to have been brutally slashed to death by her son in Kampung Baru Air Kuning here on Tuesday evening.

The 55-year-old man is believed to have been under the influence of drugs when he killed his mother, Low Lin Kew, 74.

The man was arrested soon after the incident as he was caught by his elder brother, Chan Chee Cheong, 56, and handed over to police. The suspect has been remanded for seven days.

District police chief Superintendent Som Sak Din Keliaw said the suspect, who is Low’s second child, worked in an oil palm plantation.

“The suspect’s urine tested positive for morphine,” he said.

Som Sak said Low was found dead on an easy chair at about 7.20pm.

“She died from loss of blood from slash wounds to her neck,” he said.

Police found a butcher’s knife and a small knife near the deceased.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Chan said his mother had called him on Sunday asking that he come home and take his brother for treatment as he was behaving strangely.

“When I reached home, I saw my brother about to leave the house and his t-shirt was splattered with blood. I questioned him and he admitted he had killed our mother,” he told reporters, adding that their mother became paralysed two years ago.

Chan said his brother tried to run away but he caught him.

He said only his brother was living with his mother as he and two other siblings were working in Kuala Lumpur
