Grabcar driver assaulted and his vehicle damaged by a group of taxi drivers

PETALING JAYA: A 35-year-old Grabcar driver was allegedly assaulted and his vehicle damaged by a group of taxi drivers.
In the 2am incident, the victim had just arrived at a shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur to fetch two clients from India.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Sharul Othman Mansor said prior to the incident, the clients had just entered the victim's car when a taxi driver approached them.
"The suspect started shouting at the victim for stealing his customers in the area and forced the foreigners to get out of the car. Out of fear, the men followed the suspect's order.
"The victim defended himself saying that he was only there as requested by the clients. The suspect then tried to snatch the victim's phone away but failed, which resulted in the taxi driver kicking the victim's right hand out of anger," ACP Sharul said, adding that the suspect started damaging the victim's car by kicking it.
ACP Sharul said several other taxi drivers who were nearby also joined in after the commotion broke out.
"They started kicking it repeatedly.
"Both sides of the passenger's doors, right side mirror, right side signal light and the bumper were damaged in the incident," he said.
ACP Sharul said police have taken the Grabcar driver's statement.
"According to the victim, although he is unsure of how many suspects were there, he is able to identify his assailants.
"At the moment, we are waiting for the mall to hand over the CCTV footage," he said.
The case is being investigated for inciting fear and mischief.
