JOHOR BARU: Police have nabbed an online scammer offering cheap baby products through a Facebook page.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said that the 26-year-old con-woman put up the offers via a Facebook account under the name of Dhia Alesya Sofea.
"When customers enquire on the update of their goods after making payment, the suspect would make up many excuses before she cannot be contacted anymore.
"We opened investigation papers after a victim lodged a police report on Jan 16," he said in a statement here on Wednesday.
Comm Wan Ahmad said that police managed to locate and nab the suspect at Kampung Jawa in Kota Tinggi on Feb 23.
"Initial investigations showed that the suspect was involved in 16 similar cases throughout the country using the same modus operandi," he added.
He also urged those who have fallen prey to the suspect's scam to lodge a police report at the nearest station.
"The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating," he said adding that the suspect would be remanded until Feb 24
