JOHOR BARU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will soon have its own special elite force which will be responsible for handling serious crimes involving road offences such as car cloning syndicates and threats of touts.
JPJ director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad said it was high time for the department to have its own special elite squad which are trained in multiple skills including intelligence gathering and weapon handling.
"This elite squad will comprise of 25 personnel picked from the department's own enforcement officers nationwide and they will be undergoing a three week special intensive training comprising of intelligence gathering and combat skills training which include weapon handling skills," he said
He added the number of those absorbed to the elite squad may be increased to 40 officers and the squad will be a shadow unit in the department and the identities of the officers will not be revealed.
Ismail was speaking to the media after presenting commendation certificates to 21 JPJ enforcement officers from the Southern region for tackling illegal car cloning activities involving Singaporean vehicles.
