Malaysian student in France dies following skiing accident

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian student in France, Affiah Ariffin Hew, died one day after an accident while skiing in Nice, France, last Friday.
It was learnt that Affiah, 23 was a student at the University of Nantes, France.
The victim's mother, Latipah Madon, who is now in France, confirmed that her daughter died at about 7pm local time on Saturday (2am on Sunday, Malaysian time) while being treated at the Chu Pasteur Hospital in Nice.
"Arrangements to bring back my daughter's remains to Malaysia are expected to take between two to three days," she told Bernama via her Facebook messaging system Monday.
She left for France on Saturday morning after being informed of the accident.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Students Association in France (Masaf), via its Facebook website, said that Affiah was involved in an accident while skiing in Nice.
According to Masaf, Affiah was taken to the Chu Pasteur Hospital for treatment and was said to be in a coma.
"We wish to express our sadness, grief and sorrow on the incident and subsequently extend our condolences to Affiah's family, may they be strong and resolute in facing their loss," said Masaf via the Facebook. - Bernama
