Four new members were appointed to the Umno supreme council, Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced last night.

They are Wanita Umno deputy chief Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, Wanita executive secretary Datuk Rosni Sohar, Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun, and Puteri deputy chief Zahida Zarik Khan.

Najib said nine more members would be named to the supreme council.

"As party president, I have the prerogative to appoint more council members in line with the party’s constitution and I will announce their names early next week," he told reporters after chairing the first supreme council meeting after last month's party elections.
In addition, he said, all seven Umno state Menteri Besars including those who did not contest for posts during the party polls, were invited to take part in the supreme council proceedings.
"This way, they will be able to give their feedback and voice their opinions on party issues, even if they are not members of the council."
Najib also announced the setting up of two special committees to address objections and feedback following the conclusion of this year's party elections.
The objections committee will be chaired by Tan Sri Azmi Khalid, while the feedback committee will be chaired by deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Najib said the feedback committee would study all suggestions received from grassroots leaders and members to improve the party and ensure Umno remains relevant.
"Overall, Umno members have accepted the changes that we carried out during the party polls, as they have proven to lead to a more democratic and transparent election process," he said.
Muhyiddin, who was present, said the party had received a total of 172 objections during the party polls, most of which related to disciplinary issues.
"Those cases will be referred to the party's disciplinary committee," he said.
