A 38-year old man was arrested in connection to the firecracker 'bomb' which exploded under a car, injuring two women in Love Lane here yesterday.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Kesah said the suspect was nabbed near Alor Star in Kedah at about 2am today.
"Our special task force managed to identify the suspect and grabbed him at his house," he told the New Straits Times when contacted today.
Mazlan said the victim had previous convictions and police were investigating the motive.
"Police will ask for a remand order to facilitate our investigation," he said adding that the case was classified under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 4 of the Corrosive, Explosive, and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.
On Monday, a 21-year-old Chinese national and a local woman were injured in their legs after being hit by fragments of explosive thrown from a car onto another car.
The force of the explosion damaged the rear of the vehicles and caused havoc as many in the vicinity thought a bomb had gone off.
Ong Kok Kwang, 23, was driving along Lebuh Farquhar in his Honda Civic with another friend when he noticed a Nissan Grand Livina trailing behind him at about 2.30pm.
Ong then turned into Love Lane to head towards his office but the driver of the other car followed him.
He then slowed down to give way but the driver of the other car, who was with a woman in the passenger seat, starting ramming into his car from behind.
After turning into Love lane, the man drew level and hurled firecrackers at Ong's car. The explosives landed on Ong's car and went off.
The incident caused a Chinese tourist, who was walking along Love Lane, to be injured in the leg, according to her police report.
